No blogging for more than a week. Lots I could cover. I was in Coquitlam from the 23rd to the 27th (Adam fed the cats). It was really good. My dad fell while shoveling the driveway and injured his wrist (it is possibly broken) on Christmas Eve, so my brother and I had to help out with the shoveling after that. It was only bad when it rained and the snow got really wet and heavy.
My mom and I did some sewing. I made a makeup bag. Then on Boxing Day we went to Fabricana and I got a bunch of fabric and patterns on sale, and then we started making a blouse (button-up with a collar, short gathered puffy sleeves, lilac coloured broadcloth cotton). It's not the easiest sewing project in the world, but I wanted to learn a lot, and I think I have so far. I also went to my aunt's yesterday (the ex-home ec teacher) and she helped me do the interfacing and put the collar in and start the sleeves. I still need a sewing table! I went to Dressew today too, 'cause I got off work early, but wasn't feeling super inspired. They have some good suiting and twill for pants, and good plain poly-cotton blend broadcloth and a lot of 3% spandex fabrics, but right now I'm looking for nice cotton prints because I want to make a dress. I have a feeling Fabricana in Richmond might have something (and their hours are a lot more convenient as well).
The best thing about Dressew today was that I ran into Ranae! Yay! I haven't seen her hardly at all, so it was good to hang out for a few hours and catch up.
I hardly ever see movies in the theatre anymore, but I went with my parents to see Benjamin Button (it was good, but not great) in Coquitlam. The Silvercity theatre is almost unbearable, with the constant barrage of advertising. I think we watched like 10 movie previews before the movie actually started. Ridiculous. Oh, and last night Adam and I went to see Waltz with Bashir at the Ridge (such a better theatre). It was really, really heavy but really good as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the animation (some of it was too Rotoscope-y, which I hate), but the stories were so interesting and heartbreaking that it didn't really matter. I'd recommend it if you're interested at all in the Middle Eastern conflicts (this one in particular is about the Sabra and Shatila massacre in Lebanon in 1982).
I got some pretty good stuff for Christmas, too. My parents gave me a set of 7 Henckels pots and pans that are so, so nice. I also got a french press coffee maker (our old one broke), a popcorn maker, a scarf made of alpaca wool which my brother's girlfriend made for me, a hand-crank emergency radio (you can hand-crank charge your cell phone with it! but it takes forever), a shirt, a necklace, a potted flower, a star wars trivia book... and other stuff too.
Adam and I are having a dubstep New Year's - the Lighta! crew are putting on a thing at the Met. I hope it'll be good, but if not, it's okay, there are other dubstep parties on the horizon.
I haven't been on my bike since it started snowing. Now it's all icy everywhere. I look forward to cycling again.
